6 Tornados Touched Down In VA, MD: Here's Where

The National Weather Service confirmed seven tornados touched down in Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia on Wednesday, June 5 — six of them in the DMV alone.

The NWS sent four teams to cities across the region to survey storm damage and found a warm front slowly lifted northeast across the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia into northern Virginia, along with central and northeastern Maryland. 

At the same time, low pressure tracked along the warm front causing severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to develop. Peak winds were between 85 and 105 mph, the strongest in

Inwood, WV, EF-0 tornado, 4:04 p.m. to 4:08 p.m.

Middle River, MD EF-1 from 8:57 to 8:58 p.m.

Eldersburg, MD EF-0 from 7:59 to 8:13 p.m.

Southern Baltimore County, MD, EF-1 from Arbutus to Halethorpe, 8::45 to 8:52 p.m.

Central Montgomery County, MD, EF-1 from Poolesville to Gaithersburg,  7:14 p.m. to 7:42 p.m.

Columbia, MD, EF-1 from 8:31 p.m. to 8:33 p.m.

Leesburg, VA, EF-1, 6:42 p.m. to 6:43 p.m.
